Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon visited Sitio Panluan in Barangay Hagan, Bongabong to address the long-standing problem of the community’s bamboo bridge, which serves as the residents’ only access route.
According to Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito Dolor, the bamboo bridge regularly collapses whenever strong typhoons hit the area. Each time it is damaged, residents work together to rebuild the structure using available materials.
Dizon personally inspected the condition of the bridge during his visit and acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents who rely on the makeshift bamboo crossing for their daily activities, including travel to school, work, and nearby markets.
As a permanent solution, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is proposing the construction of a concrete bridge in Sitio Panluan. The planned infrastructure aims to provide a safer and more durable crossing for the community, especially during severe weather conditions.
The proposed concrete bridge is expected to replace the temporary bamboo structure and ensure uninterrupted access for residents, particularly during the rainy season and typhoon events.
