The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has deployed heavy equipment to help contain the ongoing fire at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill, which has been burning for several days and affecting nearby communities.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected the site on Thursday, April 16, to oversee operations and ensure additional government support is delivered to extinguish the blaze fully.

According to Dizon, the DPWH has sent equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, and dredgers to assist in firefighting and containment efforts. The deployment follows instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to provide immediate support to the Navotas local government.

The fire has already impacted several communities, with residents in Navotas, Malabon, and Obando, Bulacan experiencing the effects of thick smoke and hazardous air conditions.

Authorities continue to coordinate efforts to control the fire and mitigate its impact on surrounding areas.
