The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII conducted a dry run on December 10, 2025, for the implementation of a 15-ton load limit on the San Juanico Bridge.
The activity, held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., was part of the agency’s preparation for the upcoming increase in allowable vehicle load on the structure.
In its public advisory, the DPWH stated: “A dry run for the 15-Ton weight load limit on San Juanico Bridge will be conducted… Two-way traffic will be allowed during the activity. Please maintain a speed limit of 30 kph.” It added that the dry run was “part of the continuing preparatory works to support the planned increase in allowable vehicle load on the bridge.”
The DPWH confirmed that the official opening of the 15-ton bridge capacity is set for Friday, December 12, 2025. The upgraded load limit is expected to improve transport efficiency between Samar and Leyte, benefiting both commercial operations and daily commuters.
Motorists were reminded to observe the 30 kph speed limit and cooperate with authorities to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow during the dry run.
