Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the lifetime revocation of the driver’s license of a motorist caught on video deliberately ramming a student’s motorcycle in Teresa, Rizal.
The move follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold reckless and irresponsible drivers accountable for endangering public safety.
“Inutusan na natin ang LTO kagabi na i-show cause ang driver na iyan ngayong araw at sinabi ko na irevoke ang license, lifetime,” Lopez said in an exclusive interview in DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the suspect is seen intentionally hitting the student’s motorcycle, allegedly after claiming that his vehicle was scratched.
“‘Yang driver na ‘yan, walang karapatan magmaneho sa kalsada. Sabihin na nating totoo mang nasagi ‘yung kanyang sasakyan. Tama bang habulin at bundulin mo ‘yung bata?” said Lopez, visibly angered by the incident.
The acting secretary immediately instructed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to locate the driver and revoke his license permanently.
“Walang karapatan ang driver na iyan na magmaneho sa ating kalsada. Dapat diyan ay sampahan talaga ng kaso.,” Lopez added.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is also coordinating with the Philippine National Police to assist in the investigation and possible filing of criminal charges.
Lopez said he will personally reach out to the student’s family and has directed the agency’s legal team to provide legal assistance in pursuing justice.
