Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez tasked the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) to immediately implement measures to alleviate long passenger queues at LRT-2 stations.
During Lopez’s inspection of the LRT-2 Antipolo Station on Tuesday morning, he ordered LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera to coordinate with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to expedite the effective deployment of the special bus transportation scheme from Antipolo City to Recto Avenue in Manila.
On Monday, the LTFRB said it had begun preparing for a feasibility study on the “fast, comfortable, and reliable” bus service to cater to LRT-2 commuters.
This comes in response to an observed influx of passengers riding the LRT-2 trains, particularly during rush hours, said Acting LTFRB Chairman Atty. Greg Pua, Jr.
The agency observed winding passenger queues, with congestion spilling out from station platforms to the lower levels and surrounding streets.
