Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez inspected several bus terminals in Pasay City and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Monday, October 20 as part of preparations for the expected influx of travelers during Undas this year.
During the inspection, Lopez directed bus terminal operators in Pasay to improve restroom facilities, add more electric fans, ensure online booking services, and display ticket prices prominently for passengers’ convenience.
At the PITX, management committed to enhancing the air conditioning system to make the terminal more comfortable for commuters.
Lopez also announced an agreement between the DOTr and PITX management to establish a Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) office inside the terminal. The office will monitor bus operations and immediately address passenger complaints.
Furthermore, the DOTr and the LTFRB Road Sector will form a steering committee to address the underutilization of PITX’s second floor, aiming to maximize all bay areas and prevent passenger congestion.
Lopez noted that some buses were seen waiting along the roads outside the terminal, underscoring the need for better space management and traffic flow.
The department also ensures the safety and security of the passengers who'll be travelling even before the start of Undas.
“Nag usap na rin kami ng PITX management na sabi namin pagdating sa Undas, even before the Undas, we’re going to deploy additional personnel from DOTr, LTO, LTFRB, SAIC, at mga coast guard natin to augment the security kasama na rin po ang PNP natin,” Lopez said.
“Again, napakaimportante po ng seguridad sa mga panahon na ‘to,” he added.
The DOTr chief assured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure safe, organized, and comfortable travel for passengers during the Undas season.
