MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) and its attached agency, the Intramuros Administration, announced free access and guided tours in the historic Walled City for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and returning migrant workers.
OFWs, migrant workers and their companions may enjoy free entry to two of Intramuros’ premier heritage attractions – Fort Santiago and Centro de Turismo Intramuros from May 25 to 31, 2026, as part of a special initiative aimed at giving Filipino workers abroad a meaningful and memorable homecoming experience, the Tourism Department said.
The week-long offering also includes free guided heritage tours, allowing OFWs and their families or companions to reconnect with Philippine history, culture, and identity through immersive storytelling and exploration within the historic district, the DOT added.

In a statement, DOT secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said that this is also a way to acknowledge the contribution of OFWs globally, and an expression of gratitude by giving them a memorable and meaningful time with their family while returning to the country.
“We want to acknowledge the immense hard work our OFWs perform every single day across the globe. Our goal is to express our gratitude by giving them the time to reconnect with their families and our culture,” Sec. Angara-Mathay said.
“We want to evoke the nostalgia of the days when families routinely took the weekend to walk around Luneta Park, bringing back those cherished memories and offering a relaxed, meaningful space to bond right next door in the historic heart of Manila,” she added.
The tourism chief added that by opening Intramuros’ historic landmarks free of charge, the initiative seeks not only to honor OFWs for their sacrifices, but also to encourage family bonding and foster a deeper appreciation for Philippine culture and heritage among returning Filipinos and their loved ones.
Interested visitors may present their valid Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) and membership card issued by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Each eligible OFW may bring up to four companions, the DOT mentioned.
