The Department of Tourism (DOT) is considering the nation’s girl group BINI as tourism ambassadors following their historic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California, U.S.A.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the agency has begun reaching out to the group’s camp regarding the offer, noting that discussions are already underway, although no formal response has been received yet.
“We are so proud that they unfurled the flag on the stage called Coachella,” Angara-Mathay told the reporters in an ambush interview.
“We always put value on our talents who make a name for themselves and who are proud to wave our flag on the international stage," she added.
According to Angara-Mathay, the government is still awaiting the group’s response as the members are currently traveling abroad.
“’Di pa sila sumasagot because they are traveling… we’re just waiting for them to come back,” she said.
The eight-member Philippine pop (P-Pop) girl group—composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena—has recently received recognition from both the Senate and the House of Representatives for their achievements, particularly their historic Coachella performance, which lawmakers described as a milestone in promoting Original Pilipino Music (OPM) on the global stage.
The growing acknowledgment from government institutions follows increasing public support for the group’s international success, with discussions online even suggesting ways to incorporate BINI’s music into tourism campaigns, including proposed slogans and airport playlists.
BINI is currently preparing for their upcoming “Signals World Tour,” which is set to kick off next month at the Mall of Asia Arena.
