The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has found resigned Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) men’s basketball head coach Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin and the university administratively liable for violations involving his work permits.
In its decision announced Tuesday, DOLE ordered Baldwin to pay a P4.9-million fine for allegedly failing to secure a Certificate of Exemption for an Alien Employment Permit (AEP), according to a report by RH Tina Nolasco.
The decision also ordered Ateneo pay P4.9 million for employing Baldwin without permits.
Baldwin was also ordered to pay a separate P10,000 fine for working in the country without the required AEP.
Ateneo de Manila University was likewise fined P10,000 for employing Baldwin without the required permit.
The DOLE ruling concerns Baldwin’s employment as head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
The labor department also recommended that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) initiate summary deportation proceedings against Baldwin over his alleged employment in the country without the required documents.
