The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to file an extradition petition against doomsday preacher Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, so that he may be tried for his alleged crimes in the United States.
According to DOJ Secretary Fredderick Vida, the department is in its last stage of preparation before submitting the said petition before a local trial court.
In August, the US government requested that the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) be turned over to face charges of sex trafficking and racketeering in their country.
The Philippines is obliged to fulfill its end of an extradition treaty made with the US, Vida said.
Chief State Counsel Dennis Chan expressed confidence that the court will uphold the DOJ’s petition, in accordance with the standards set in the aforementioned agreement.
Quiboloy faces cases relating to qualified human trafficking, and the violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
The embattled religious leader is currently detained at the Pasig City Jail.
