The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that the prosecutor’s office recommended charges against Pacencia on August 20, 2026, according to a report by RH Tina Nolasco.
DOJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said the corresponding information will be filed before the Family Court of the Regional Trial Court in Tacloban.
Pacencia is the aunt of one of the minors involved in the shooting at San Jose National High School. She was also the registered owner of the firearm allegedly used by her 14-year-old nephew, who was identified as a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
The shooting left three students dead and 20 others injured.
The recommendation stemmed from a preliminary investigation conducted based on complaints filed by the parents and students of San Jose National High School in connection with the incident.
The DOJ said the case against Pacencia concerns the alleged reckless handling or safekeeping of the firearm that was later used in the shooting.
