The Department of Justice (DOJ) is still reviewing the United States government's request to extradite Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the DOJ is still scrutinizing the voluminous documents submitted by U.S. authorities and has yet to complete its evaluation.

"Sa ngayon ang DOJ ay kasalukuyan pang binubusisi, inaaral, ina-access ang bulto-bultong dokumento na naipasa sa kanila. Hindi pa sila halos tapos dahil sa napakaraming dapat pagaralan," Castro said during a press briefing with the Malacañang Press Corps on Aug. 25.

Among the issues being reviewed is whether the person identified in the extradition request is indeed Quiboloy, Castro said.

The DOJ will also determine whether the principle of double criminality applies, or whether the offenses Quiboloy is accused of committing in the United States are also punishable under Philippine law.

Castro said the DOJ understands that a decision on the extradition request must be made promptly, but the volume of documents has made the review time-consuming.

"Hintayin natin kung kailan ito matatapos. Alam nila na ito ay agaran na dapat magkaroon ng desisyon," Castro said.

Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, is currently facing the U.S. federal charges for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion and sex trafficking of children; sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling.
