The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Wednesday that it has signed an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) for the former Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach, team manager, and other members of the Ateneo coaching staff, in connection with the ongoing probe into the drowning incident that resulted in the deaths of two student-athletes.
“Considering the ongoing investigation into the deaths of the two Ateneo de Manila University student-athletes and the seriousness of the allegations being examined by our law enforcement agencies, I have signed today an ILBO… against the following individuals who have thus far been identified in the investigation,” DOJ Secretary Fredderick Vida said during a press conference.
Vida named the subjects of the ILBO: former Head Coach Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin, former Team Manager Christopher “Epok” Quimpo, as well as Assistant Coaches Reynaldo Jacinto Jr., Dean Castaño, and Sandro Soriano.
Vida clarified, however, that an ILBO does not prevent an individual from leaving the country, as it is merely a “monitoring mechanism” for alerting authorities of the subjects’ travels.
At this point in time, the department believes that a precautionary hold order (PHDO)—which bars departure from the country—is unnecessary.
Baldwin, who recently resigned as head coach, failed to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) amid its probe into the fatal incident. It was said that he was “not in a good condition,” according to a report.
On June 8, Rene Baterbonia and Nigerian import player Divine Adili died after drowning in a beach resort during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.
According to earlier reports, the victims’ bodies had bruises, although autopsy results indicate that asphyxia from drowning was the cause of death.
