The Department of Justice (DOJ) clarified on Monday that it does not have any direct participation in the initiation and filing of Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s plunder case, according to a report by RH 9 Tina Nolasco.
“‘Yung Department of Justice was never involved in this case. Hindi kami nag-conduct ng case build-up, hindi kami nag-conduct ng preliminary investigation, hindi kami nag-issue ng resolution… At ngayon, nasa korte na siya, hindi din kami magpo-prosecute doon,” Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty said during a press conference today.
He made it clear that the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Special Prosecutor are both leading the case.
“Lahat ito hawak ng Office of the Ombudsman at Office of the Special Prosecutor,” he said.
Ty said the DOJ’s only aim at present is to raise awareness regarding the justice process.
“Ang pakay lang natin ngayon is really public awareness, public knowledge on the relevant laws that are germane to this very relevant issue to our country,” the undersecretary said.
Senator Marcoleta surrendered to the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) earlier today, according to a report by RH 5 Val Gonzales.
He has been confined at the PNP General Hospital after experiencing chest pain and elevated blood pressure, confirmed the CIDG.
