The Department of Justice (DOJ) may use the upcoming report of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee as a key reference in investigating alleged anomalies in flood control projects, officials said.

Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon confirmed that the DOJ has not yet received an official copy of the committee’s report but is open to using it to assess possible legal cases against involved parties. The agency is waiting for the finalized report before taking further action.

A draft of the report was recently leaked, reportedly recommending the filing of charges against several senators, including Joel Villanueva, Jinggoy Estrada, and Francis “Chiz” Escudero, in connection with the alleged anomalies. The leak has sparked public debate over transparency and accountability in government oversight.

Earlier, lawyer Atty. Eldrige Marvin Aceron filed a petition urging the Senate to release the full and unredacted report, arguing that the public deserves access to the signed committee document and explanations for any withheld information.

More than 300 individuals have signed a call for the report to be made public, despite some senators withdrawing their signatures from the draft document. The DOJ said it will carefully review the report to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to pursue formal charges.

This case underscores growing public concern over accountability in government infrastructure projects, particularly those affecting flood control and disaster preparedness in flood-prone areas.
