The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Wednesday that the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office (QC-PO) junked the complaint filed by Vice President Sara Duterte’s husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, against several lawmakers and Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) officials.

Justice Spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said the case was dismissed because the complaint falls under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman—the same reason cited in the QC-PO’s own 23-page decision, according to a report by RH 9 Tina Nolasco.

The Ombudsman and the DOJ—the latter under which the prosecutor’s office operates—previously signed a Memorandum of Agreement delineating and clarifying the scope of both agencies.

“Wherefore, pursuant to the Memorandum of Agreement between the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice dated March 29, 2012, and on jurisdictional issues, the complaint is hereby recommended dismissed without prejudice,” the QC-PO’s decision read.

Atty. Carpio’s complaint concerns the AMLC’s disclosure of his and Duterte’s bank transactions as part of impeachment proceedings carried out by the House Justice Committee.
