The Department of Justice (DOJ) aims to bring former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, who is currently in the custody of Czech authorities, back to the Philippines to answer for his alleged crimes.
In a Tuesday report by RH 29 Boy Gonzales, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said holding Co accountable was among the government’s priorities. However, he said he had no verified information to disclose regarding the matter.
The distance between the Philippines and the Czech Republic poses a challenge, admitted the DOJ chief, although coordination between the two countries continues through key agencies.
Within the week, Vida will be travelling to the Czech Republic to meet with relevant authorities for Co’s extradition, so as to bring him to justice, he said.
On Thursday evening, April 16, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. broke the news that Co had been arrested in Prague after entering the Czech Republic without proper documentation.
