Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida urged the department and its attached agencies’ staff and their families to lead in efforts to save on energy and fuel due to the soaring pump prices driven upwards by the crisis in the Middle East.
In a press release issued Monday, the DOJ said Vida called for a “whole-of-department” show of solidarity in line with the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for government officials to use energy more frugally.
On March 9, the justice secretary said a four-day work week had been implemented within the department, as well as fewer official travel and expanded use of online platforms.
According to the DOJ, this may reduce their energy consumption by 20 percent or more if the restrictions are faithfully observed.
Vida stressed that the united adjustment on the agency’s part will help in facing the challenges brought on by the oil crisis and welfare of employees’ families and their countrymen.
United Nations (UN) Climate Secretary Simon Stiell said that the disruption in energy markets globally is an “abject lesson” in the risks of fossil fuel reliance, emphasizing the need for governments to explore renewable energy sources like wind and solar, instead of oil and gas, said a Reuters report on Monday.
