The Department of Justice (DOJ) approved the recommendation to file cyberlibel and perjury cases against Atty. Levito Baligod and the 18 “maleta boys” who allegedly delivered luggages of cash under former lawmaker Elizaldy Co, it announced on Tuesday.

In a press release, the DOJ said that the Office of the Prosecutor General approved the filing of multiple Informations against the lawyer and his clients in response to several complaints concerning their highly-publicized revelations.

“Under the approved resolutions, the so-called ‘18 maleta boys’ are to be charged in ten (10) separate Informations for the following offenses:

Sex (6) counts of cyber libel under Section 4(c) (4) of Republic Act No. 10175, otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012; and

Four (4) counts of perjury,” the Department stated.

Atty. Baligod is to be charged as a co-accused in certain Informations, with a separate Information for one count of cyberlibel to be filed against him.

“Other complaints covered by the resolutions were dismissed for lack of prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction,” the DOJ said, adding that the resolution was decided upon after considering the evidence presented by the complainants during preliminary investigation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trillanes posted about the DOJ’s resolution. The former senator had been implicated as a supposed recipient of enormous amounts in flood control kickbacks.

On Facebook, Trillanes previously warned Baligod to take down a post he flagged as “fake news” about him. Baligod claimed that his camp offered ₱10 million for each bagman to “cover up the truth.”
