The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 1,113 road crash injuries from December 21, 2025, to January 2, 2026, with motorcycles accounting for the majority of cases.

In a social media post, DOH said that this figure is nearly 82% higher compared to the same period in 2024. Data also shows that 508 cases, almost half of the total, involved young drivers aged 15 to 29.

Among the seven reported deaths, four were young people aged 16 to 26, six involved motorcycles, and one was a pedestrian.

The report further revealed that 787 cases involved motorcycle crashes, while 965 individuals were not using safety accessories such as helmets and seatbelts at the time of the incident. Additionally, 135 cases involved individuals who were under the influence of alcohol.

“In fact, ang LTO pinagbawal na ang electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler sa ating main thoroughfare. For safety yan, road safety yan. Ako, sang-ayon ako diyan,” said DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa. “Kung minsan bata, hindi nila naiintindihan yung road safety courtesy traffic rules. So nagkakaroon talaga ng mga road crash.”

Herbosa noted that the DOH is working closely with the Department of Transportation, LTO, and DPWH under the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan, highlighting the alarming number of injuries recorded. He added that crashes involving two- or three-wheelers tend to result in more severe injuries or fatalities.

The DOH reiterated its call for motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, avoid drunk driving, and consistently use protective gear to prevent injuries and fatalities, especially during peak travel periods.

“Sumunod tayo.Kasi para sa kapakanan to ng ating mga mamamayan,” Herbosa added, urging the public to remain vigilant on the roads.
