The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced significant oil price adjustments ahead of the Holy Week travel season, with pump prices expected to surge across key fuel products.

According to the DOE’s latest advisory, diesel prices could climb to nearly ₱145 per liter, while diesel plus may exceed ₱153 per liter. Kerosene costs are projected to top ₱169 per liter, and various grades of gasoline may rise by as much as ₱114 per liter depending on the type.

Energy authorities attribute the steep increases to persistent global oil market volatility, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and supply pressures that have driven up international crude values. The surging costs come at a time when Filipino motorists and transport operators are preparing for one of the busiest travel periods of the year, potentially amplifying financial strain for commuters and logistics sectors alike.

The DOE’s price bulletin coincides with broader government efforts to stabilize the fuel supply, including plans to import additional diesel barrels this April to bolster national inventories. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin has emphasized that while the government works to ensure adequate supply, retail price movements remain directly influenced by global commodity trends and private sector pricing decisions.

Transport groups and motorists have expressed concern over the timing of the adjustments, warning that higher pump prices could inflate travel and goods delivery costs during the Holy Week holiday.
