The Department of Energy (DOE) on Wednesday assured the public that the Philippines maintains a sufficient inventory of petroleum products despite the ongoing global oil crisis.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stated that the country’s current fuel supply is expected to last for more than 50 days, with new shipments arriving on a regular schedule to replenish stocks.
According to DOE data as of April 3, the national inventory stands at an average of 50.42 days of available fuel. The breakdown of the supply is as follows:
-
Gasoline = 57.58 days
-
Diesel = 47.26 days
-
Kerosene = 106.22 days
-
Jet fuel = 66.37 days
-
Fuel oil = 52.26 days
-
LPG = 33.10 days
Garin emphasized the strict implementation of the department's new anti-hoarding rules, which aim to prevent panic buying and ensure a steady flow of supply nationwide.
Under the new guidelines, gas stations are prohibited from refusing to sell fuel without a valid reason or concealing their inventory. Conversely, consumers are warned against hoarding, defined as purchasing excessive amounts of petroleum for storage rather than immediate use.
The energy secretary noted that gasoline stations may set reasonable limits on the amount of fuel sold to ensure it is for immediate consumption only.
Garin added that the bulk purchase of fuel using drums or jerry cans is being strictly monitored and is currently restricted to essential services, including fishing, farming, and emergency operations.
