The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has pledged full assistance and justice for the families of two Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were killed during a hostage incident in Beirut, Lebanon, on April 15.
According to authorities, the two victims—both long-time household service workers—were fatally shot by their employer during the incident. The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody in Lebanon pending the filing of formal charges.
The DMW said it has already extended immediate assistance to the victims’ families in the Philippines and is coordinating closely with the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Lebanon to ensure a thorough investigation and the swift filing of appropriate legal cases.
Upon the instruction of DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, DMW Undersecretaries Bernard P. Olalia and Felicitas Q. Bay are set to personally visit the families of the victims to convey condolences and assure continued government support.
The Philippine government reiterated its commitment to securing justice for the slain OFWs, including assistance for repatriation and access to all applicable benefits, as investigations by Lebanese authorities continue.
