The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) assured continuous protection and assistance for seven Filipino seafarers injured in a reported drone attack on a container ship traversing the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week.
In a statement released Thursday, Hans Leo J. Cacdac confirmed that the Filipino crew members aboard the container vessel San Antonio survived the attack that reportedly occurred on Tuesday, May 5.
According to the DMW, all seven injured seafarers are currently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital. Four of the victims sustained minor injuries, while three others remain under intensive care.
Secretary Cacdac said the agency, through its Migrant Workers Offices, is closely coordinating with hospital authorities to monitor the condition of the seafarers and ensure they receive proper medical attention and support.
The DMW also emphasized that it continues to provide assistance not only to the affected crew members but also to their families in the Philippines amid growing concerns over maritime security in the region.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting Filipino seafarers affected by international maritime incidents, stressing that the Philippine government is continuously monitoring developments surrounding the attack and the safety of overseas Filipino workers deployed at sea.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s busiest and most strategically important shipping routes, with heightened tensions in the region raising concerns over the safety of commercial vessels and international crews.
