Love Radio’s radio disc jockey, Nicole Hyala, revealed Monday, June 23, that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

On-air, the beloved radio DJ expressed how hard it was for her to tell their listeners that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

“Una anak, sunod asawa, ngayon ako na. Napag-aalaman namin na recently yung resulta ng aking biopsy na tinatawa-tawa ko lang, napag-alaman ang sabi meron daw po akong thyroid cancer,” she said.

Nicole Hyala, whose real name is Emmylou Gaite-Tiñana, is famously known for her upbeat persona and infectious laughter. However, the announcement on Monday took listeners by surprise, as it showed a more vulnerable side to the DJ.

When she first found out, she was surprised that she was not overwhelmed with emotions, knowing that she is the type of person to react similarly. Because of this, she questioned whether she was in denial.

“Paulit-ulit akong nagtatanong sa sarili ko: am I in denial about the fear kaya hindi ako umiiyak?” Nicole questioned.

She is now set for surgery in July. Despite the gloomy announcement, Nicole assured listeners that what she has is a friendly type of cancer. Meaning, she would only need to get a full thyroidectomy to solve the problem.

“I’ve faced battles that broke me, seasons that nearly crushed me. But here I am still standing, still smiling, still kumikinang. :) I’ve survived storms that could’ve drowned me and this is just another wave I know I can ride, with God beside me,” she wrote in her caption.

“Thyroid cancer. You’re just another name and I have faith in the One who’s above all names. So let’s do this, thyroid cancer. You picked the wrong girl. Mali ka ng kinalaban. Wag ako. Hahahahaha!” she added.

During this time, she emphasized the importance of having faith, stating that it means “trusting even if the storm is raging.”

Meanwhile, her daughter Princess Nicolehyala addressed her mother’s diagnosis in an Instagram post. She assured followers that they are okay.

“I have been getting messages asking me how I am because of mom's thyroid cancer thingie. Well we are okay because mom is okay,” she wrote.

She shared a photo of her mother wearing a hot pink top paired with a midi skirt with a ditzy pattern and hot pink heeled sandals.

“Imagine going to the cardiologist in this drip. I went with her today. Oh yes queen. Pinky avatar be like. O yes diva,” she concluded her post.
