Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos inspected flood-prone areas in Paombong and Hagonoy, Bulacan, as the government moves to address the decades-old flooding problem affecting residents in the province.
According to DPWH, Dizon and Abalos visited the two municipalities to assess the condition of flood control structures and examine the recurring flooding that has long been affecting communities in Bulacan.
Dizon said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to prioritize the repair of defective and damaged flood control structures in the province.
Among the immediate measures is the closure and repair of breaches in existing flood control structures to help prevent water from entering affected communities.
The DPWH will also work with experts and conduct comprehensive studies to identify long-term interventions that could help mitigate flooding in the area.
Authorities said the planned measures are aimed at providing lasting solutions to the flooding problem and improving the protection of Bulacan residents from recurring floods.
