Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno on Monday urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to go beyond promises and rhetoric in his State of the Nation Address (SONA), calling instead for concrete actions to address corruption, rising living costs and governance reforms.

Diokno said lawmakers, including those from the Akbayan bloc, have laid out their “wish list” ahead of the president’s annual address, but stressed that the speech should focus on measurable commitments rather than general statements.

On corruption, Diokno said the administration must ensure accountability for all those involved in the misuse of public funds, regardless of political affiliation.

He also pushed for the passage of key legislative measures, including reforms to the party-list system and the proposed Right to Information Act, which seeks to institutionalize public access to government data.

Diokno further called on the government to present immediate and concrete solutions to the rising cost of living, citing persistent increases in fuel and electricity prices, elevated inflation, and the lack of quality employment opportunities.

The president is expected to outline his administration’s priorities and accomplishments in his fifth SONA before Congress on Monday, July 27.
