Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla likened the possible enactment of the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill to a comet that would trigger an “extinction event” among political clan members serving as government officials, but said he would be fine with it.
“Alam mo, ano ‘yan e, parang ang comet that hits the Earth, tapos extinction event. So mauubos kaming lahat—us included,” Remulla said during a Kapihan session on Wednesday, March 4. By “us,” he was referring to his family members.
Remulla said that his family has served the country long and well and that he is willing to give up his place in office, should the bill become law.
“Kung ano ‘yung gusto nila, doon ako. Kung sabihin nilang bawal na, tigil na kami. Okay na ‘yun, we’ve been serving for 31 years. We’re proud of our achievements. Sa Cavite, we’re the number one province in terms of growth,” he said.
The Anti-Dynasty Bill was approved by the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms on Tuesday, a move hailed by Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.
