The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday emphasized that the enforcement of recently issued arrest warrants linked to alleged anomalies in flood-control projects will proceed strictly on the basis of law, not political considerations.

On Friday, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced that a warrant of arrest has been issued against resigned Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy and other 17 individuals including the Department of Public Workes and Highways and Sunwest Corporation officials.

In a statement, the DILG said it is acting on the directive of Marcos to "ensure accountability" in the use of public funds amid ongoing investigations into questionable infrastructure projects.

The agency said that they instructed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to implement the arrest warrants “properly and in full accordance with the law.”

“Due process will be observed and all individuals covered by the warrants will be treated fairly,” the DILG said.

The department underscored that "enforcement will not depend on personalities or politics."

And vowed that anyone who is the subject of a lawful warrant, it said, will be apprehended.

“The law applies equally to all and the DILG will carry out what needs to be done,” the statement read.

The agency added that protecting public funds and upholding integrity in government remain central to the administration’s governance agenda.

The alleged flood-control irregularities have raised concerns over the misuse of resources meant to address disaster risks and protect communities.

“The DILG will enforce the law and ensure that accountability proceeds as it should, for the safety and welfare of our people,” the department said.

Currently, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has sent teams to enforce the arrest warrants issued by the Sandiganbayan against individuals linked to alleged irregularities in flood-control projects.
