Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced on Wednesday that he is considering pressing human trafficking charges against former lawmaker Jacinto “Jing” Paras in connection with his alleged involvement in a honeytrap or sex scandal plot against Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.
Women victims rescued by law enforcement in an anti-trafficking operation implicated Paras, who is now a person of interest, the Interior chief said.
“It seems like siya ang pasimuno nito, siya ang konekta sa bugaw, ang bugaw ang nagsabi kung ano ang plano,” Remulla told reporters.
Earlier, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) issued a subpoena for Paras and Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste over their alleged roles in the scheme.
“No one is above the law,” bureau Director Atty. Melvin Matibag responded when Leviste called him a family friend and mentor figure in a social media post sharing a congratulatory message Matibag had sent the young congressman in 2025.
