The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Education (DepEd) are set to issue a memorandum allowing barangay tanod outposts inside public schools to strengthen security and monitoring on school premises following the series of reported school violence and shooting incidents.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the proposed measure would complement existing security measures and give barangay officials (tanod) a more active role in keeping students, teachers and school personnel safe.

Remulla said the barangay officials, who are familiar with residents in their communities, could also help identify and monitor students who may need attention or assistance.
