As a consular case already being handled by Manila and Tokyo, the deportation of Japanese nationals involved in a robbery ring in Japan won't be brought up during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s planned trip to Japan.
This was according to Neal Imperial, the assistant secretary for Foreign Affairs.
The DFA official stated that the DOJ and the Japanese government, which had earlier requested the deportation of four people from the Philippines, are still working on the case.
According to Imperial, Manila will proceed with deportation proceedings in accordance with domestic laws.
Reports from the Japanese media said the suspected mastermind, Yuki Watanabe, also known as "Luffy," allegedly directed the break-ins in Japan while detained at a Manila immigration facility using an encrypted messaging app.
On Tuesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said that it hoped to deport at least two of the four by the end of the week.
