

MANILA, Philippines – Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro participated in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 24 to 25 October 2025, as she joins her counterparts in discussions on key regional developments.
In a news release from the DFA, it mentioned that Lazaro and her counterparts from the ASEAN tackled regional issues, including Timor-Leste’s ongoing process towards a full ASEAN membership, the situation in Myanmar, the advancement of ASEAN’s external relations, and the promotion of peace and security through adherence to international law.
The DFA also stated that the meetings were convened in preparation for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, which is ongoing from 26-27 October 2025, and attended by the Leaders of the ASEAN Member States.
“The meetings featured the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) on the situation in Myanmar, the Ceremony on Depositing of Instrument of Accession to the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) by Timor-Leste, as well as the signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by Finland,” the DFA said.

“The TAC remains ASEAN’s cornerstone in promoting regional peace, stability, and constructive engagement among ASEAN Member States and external partners. With this, the Philippines is set to host the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Conference of the TAC in 2026 during its Chairship,” DFA added.
