The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it has yet to obtain information regarding the reported arrest of former Ako Bicol party-list representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co in Prague, Czech Republic.

“Regarding Zaldy Co, we have no information for now. We will provide an update as soon as the information becomes available. Thank you,” the DFA told the media on Thursday evening.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier announced that Co had been arrested in Prague after allegedly entering the country without proper documentation.

“Nahuli na si Zaldy Co. He is now detained in Prague and is currently in the custody of Czech authorities,” the President said.

“We are in close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time,” he added.

Co has figured in controversies linked to flood control projects, including allegations involving the use of substantial public funds, as well as claims of inefficiencies and possible overpricing.

He has also faced scrutiny over his alleged influence on infrastructure budget allocations, which critics say could lead to patronage or preferential approval of projects.
