The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday said no Filipinos have been reported hurt or affected amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as Philippine embassies in the region were placed on full alert.
In a statement, the DFA confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been briefed on the situation by Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro and is closely monitoring developments.
“The President is deeply concerned for the safety of Filipinos in Iran, Israel, and all the countries in the region,” the DFA said.
The department reported that Philippine embassies in Tehran and Tel Aviv have been placed on full alert, along with missions in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which host large Filipino communities.
“The DFA has reported that are no Filipinos affected or harmed,” the DFA stated.
The agency said Marcos has directed the DFA and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to immediately implement contingency measures to ensure the safety and protection of overseas Filipinos.
“The President has directed the DFA and the DMW to immediately take steps and implement contingency plans to ensure the safety of Filipinos in these countries,” the statement added.
The DFA also assured that embassies remain ready to assist Filipino nationals and are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground. Filipinos in affected areas are advised to remain indoors, stay in safe places, and avoid going out to public areas until further notice.
Amid reports of escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, the Philippines called on all parties to exercise restraint.
“The Philippines is concerned about the escalation of the situation in the Middle East region and calls on all parties to resort immediately to dialogue and negotiations to bring peace and stability to the region,” Secretary Lazaro said.
The DFA said coordination efforts and contingency preparations remain ongoing as the situation continues to develop.
