Former President Rodrigo Duterte was proclaimed Davao City mayor on Tuesday after securing a landslide victory in the recently concluded 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).

Official results showed that Duterte garnered 662,630 votes, far ahead of Atty. Karlo Nograles, who received 80,852 votes.

Meanwhile, Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, the former president’s youngest son, dominated the vice mayoral race with 651,356 votes—posting a wide lead over Bernie Al-Ag, who garnered 78,893 votes.

He is expected to be named as Davao City’s acting mayor and take over his father’s responsibilities, as Rodrigo remains in detention at The Hague, Netherlands, following his arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

On March 11, the 80-year-old Duterte was arrested by Philippine authorities following a warrant issued by the ICC. He was later transferred to The Hague in the Netherlands.

He is facing charges of crimes against humanity, allegedly committed in the Philippines between November 1, 2011, and March 16, 2019.

The confirmation hearing for the charges against him is set for September 23, 2025.

In addition to Baste, Paolo "Pulong" Duterte also secured a victory, winning re-election as the 1st district representative with 203,557 votes.
