House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno has filed a cyber libel complaint against Cavite Representative Kiko Barzaga on Tuesday, January 20 at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Antipolo.
The case stems from allegations made by Barzaga, who claimed that members of the National Unity Party (NUP) allegedly received bribes from billionaire businessman Enrique Razon to support then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez during the 2025 midterm elections.
Puno emphasized that, aside from filing the cyber-libel case, the NUP will also push for Barzaga’s expulsion from the House of Representatives.
Under Philippine law, the complaint against Barzaga is not covered by parliamentary immunity. Cyber-libel carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to six years.
Barzaga is currently serving a 60-day suspension handed down by the House Committee on Ethics, which will conclude in February.
The NUP also filed an ethics complaint against Barzaga over alleged disorderly conduct and disrespectful social media posts.
