The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to hire around 30,000 teachers next academic year 2026-2027 to address existing shortages in public schools, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara announced.
In an interview on the “Dos Por Dos” program, Angara said the current teacher gap is significant but can be filled with the upcoming budget allocations from the Senate and the House of Representatives.
“Sa teachers, parang nasa 30,000 ang pagkukulang namin. Pero mukhang next year, dahil sa magandang budget na ibibigay ng Senado at Kamara, mukhang maha-hire na lahat iyon,” Angara said.
He added that the department is also increasing hiring for administrative and project officer positions to allow teachers to focus more on teaching rather than administrative tasks.
“Ang kagandahan ng kasalukuyang budget at yung darating na budget, marami tayong hinahaire na tinatawag na admin officer at project officer para yung mga teacher maka-focus na sila sa trabaho nila,” he explained.
