The Department of Education (DepEd) condemned the shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato on Friday, Sept. 18, and expressed condolences to the victims, their families and the school community.
In a statement dated Saturday, September 19, DepEd said its officials are on-site to assist the victims and coordinate with local authorities and law enforcement as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The agency further noted that intervention teams have also been deployed to provide psychological first aid and mental health support to affected students, families, and school personnel.
DepEd urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or graphic media, saying such material could add to the trauma experienced by those affected.
“We call on the public to exercise utmost responsibility: please avoid spreading unverified claims or graphic media that only compound the trauma of those affected.”
The department also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of schools nationwide.
