Air quality in several parts of Metro Manila improved Wednesday morning, with most monitoring stations recording either fair conditions or levels considered unhealthy only for sensitive groups, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

As of 7 a.m., seven monitoring stations in the National Capital Region recorded air quality classified as “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.” These were in Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon City, Parañaque’s Don Bosco area, Quezon City’s Ateneo and SMPH Commonwealth, and Taguig’s Technological University of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, monitoring stations in Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina’s Parang area, Muntinlupa’s Filinvest City, Navotas, Pasay, Pateros, San Juan City and Valenzuela recorded “Fair” air quality.

The DENR-EMB said it continues to closely monitor air quality nationwide through its network of Air Quality Monitoring Stations to assess the extent and potential impacts of the haze affecting several areas.

The haze is possibly associated with smoke and transboundary haze from ongoing fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia, which may have been carried toward the Philippines by prevailing winds.

Aside from Metro Manila, the agency is closely monitoring the air quality situation in Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Central Visayas.

The DENR-EMB urged the public to stay informed and regularly check the latest air quality conditions in their respective areas.
