House prosecution member and Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima said Friday that delaying the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte does not constitute due process, stressing that the process must continue without unnecessary interruptions.

“Hindi dapat hadlangan ang proseso ng pananagutan,” De Lima said in a Facebook post.

“Delaying the impeachment is not due process. Due process requires proceedings to move forward without unnecessary interruption,” she added.

De Lima noted that Filipinos “deserve to see the evidence before any conclusions are reached and before judgment is rendered.”

The lawmaker emphasized that presenting the evidence first is necessary before reaching any decision, as the public has the right to "truth, justice, and accountability."

“Deserve ng taumbayan ang katotohanan, hustisya at pananagutan,” De Lima said.

The Senate impeachment court has completed the first week of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. The proceedings began at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6, with senators taking their seats as trial judges.

The trial focused on Article IV of the impeachment complaint, which accuses Duterte of making grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

The impeachment proceedings are set to resume on Monday, July 13.
