Defense Spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said on Tuesday that the panel wishes to review self-confessed former Davao Death Squad member Arturo Lascañas’ affidavit before they cross-examine him during the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Poa explained that the defense team had not yet reviewed his affidavit as it was not originally part of Article IV – grave threats, according to a report by DZRH Digital’s Mary Antalan.

“Hindi naman po argumento, but basically documents that were being presented kanina, ‘yung pangunahin doon ‘yun talaga ‘yung kay Mr. Lascañas na, obviously, hindi pa namin narepaso for today, because nga hindi dapat siya parte ng Article IV. So nagulat tayo na we ventured into that,” he said.

“Wala namang mali doon, pero in the interest of being able to intelligently ask questions on ano ‘yung naging basis ng continuing… investigation. So gusto lang din nating mabasa din muna kung ano ‘yung laman talaga ng dokumento na ‘yun,” he added.

In an endeavor to establish “patterns of violence” in connection to Article IV—dealing with the alleged grave threats—National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Atty. Melvin Matibag looked into the case of the Davao Death Squad, and found that Vice President Duterte herself was allegedly involved as an “architect” of Oplan Tokhang.

Under Oplan Tokhang, police officers would visit suspected drug users’ and dealers’ homes to supposedly invite them to a lecture on drug abuse. Instead, they would reportedly open fire at the victim, killing them.
