The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte said it has prepared a strategy to address the issues surrounding her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) as the impeachment trial entered its 25th day on Tuesday, September 15.
Speaking to reporters, Duterte’s spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said the defense has already considered how it will explain matters concerning the vice president's SALNs, but declined to disclose specific details of their strategy.
“We have our strategy on that matter, actually. Because obviously, I will not, without disclosing the specifics, I will also not deny na siyempre, napagmay palawagan yung bagay-bagay,” Poa said.
Poa said the defense would present its explanations and supporting evidence if needed when it takes its turn in the proceedings.
“Meron naman kaming mga naisip na paraan at estratehiya. Yun lang po, I really feel bad that I’m always not answering your questions directly. But, asahan niyo na lang po at abangan niyo na lang po pag kami naman ang nag-present ng ebidensya kung sakaling may mga kailangan ipaliwanag doon sa mga nakalagay,” he added.
He also clarified that the defense’s planned strategies do not involve personalizing Atty. Paulo Panelo in connection with the matter.
The defense statement comes as the prosecution continues presenting evidence and testimony on Duterte’s SALNs under Article II of the impeachment case, which covers allegations of unexplained wealth, false SALNs, and continued business interests.
