The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday denied that it was deliberately making her impeachment trial “boring” or “theatrical,” amid observations that the proceedings have been moving slowly.

Defense counsel Atty. Justin Gular said the defense was simply carrying out the necessary legal steps during each hearing and was not deliberately shaping the proceedings to influence public perception.

“It has never been our strategy to make the impeachment boring or, on the other hand, theatrical,” Gular said during a press conference Tuesday.

Gular said the defense was merely doing its job based on what takes place during each day's proceedings.

“Whatever the proceedings brings on a certain day, ginagawa lang namin ang kailangan namin gawin,” he said.

He said the defense does not decide whether a particular hearing should be made more entertaining or less engaging.

“Hindi kami nag-iisip na dapat for today gawin nating boring, bukas gawin natin masaya, walang ganun,” Gular said.

Gular acknowledged that some members of the public may find the proceedings slow, noting that many Filipinos are closely following the trial because of its importance.

He urged the public to remain patient and continue observing the proceedings as they unfold.

“Just be patient, ganito lamang po yung proseso,” Gular said, adding that some days may seem “boring” while others may become heated.

He also encouraged the public to listen to the proceedings and consult legal experts who are not bound by the sub judice rule to help them form their own views on the case.
