The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8 has climbed to 78, while 30 people remain missing and 1,339 others were injured, the Office of Civil Defense said on Thursday.

Latest data as of 6 a.m. on June 18, 2026, showed Region XII recorded the highest number of fatalities with 57 deaths, followed by Region XI with 21.

In Region XI, deaths were reported in Davao Occidental with 20 and Davao del Sur with one. Thirteen people remain missing in Davao Occidental.

In Region XII, 33 deaths were recorded in Sarangani and 24 in South Cotabato. Seventeen individuals remain missing in the region, including 15 in Sarangani and two in South Cotabato.

The number of injured rose to 1,339. Region XII accounted for 1,259 of the injuries, including 948 in South Cotabato, 189 in Sarangani, 101 in Cotabato, and 21 in Sultan Kudarat. Region XI recorded 79 injured, while the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao reported one.

Authorities said about 357,000 families or 1.5 million people have been affected by the quake.

Displacement remains significant, with 47 evacuation centers opened and about 5,000 families, or 21,900 individuals, currently staying in temporary shelters.

Damage to housing was extensive, with 13,700 homes totally destroyed and 61,000 partially damaged. A total of 774 infrastructure assets were also affected, with estimated damages reaching ₱1.29 billion.

Agricultural losses were placed at ₱29.8 million, affecting Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

A state of calamity has been declared in 14 municipalities across Davao Occidental, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.

The government has already provided ₱176.8 million in aid to affected families and an additional ₱8.1 million to local government units, the OCD said.

Officials continue search, rescue, and relief operations in the hardest-hit areas as aftershocks persist.
