The death toll from the sinking of M/V Trisha Kerstin 3 in Basilan has reached 65, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Sunday, February 22.
One more body was recovered as underwater search operations continued, the PCG said.
According to the agency’s records, 293 passengers have been rescued, while 14 remain missing in connection with the incident.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier said overloading is being investigated as a possible cause of the tragedy, noting a discrepancy between the number of casualties, survivors, and missing passengers compared to the vessel’s authorized passenger capacity.
The ferry sank on January 26, 2026. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing for the remaining passengers.
