

The death toll from the landslide at the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City has climbed to 22, authorities confirmed on January 15.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cebu City, a female victim was retrieved at 6:30 a.m., followed by a male at 6:51 a.m.
In addition to the fatalities, 18 people remain hospitalized, while 14 others are still missing as search and retrieval operations continue.
In response to the disaster, the Cebu City Council declared a state of calamity, enabling the local government to fast-track emergency response efforts, access disaster funds, and provide immediate aid to affected families and communities.
The city has designated January 16 as a Day of Mourning to honor the victims of the tragedy.
Search and recovery operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected residents.
