The death toll from the deadly landslide at the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City has climbed to 35, as search and rescue operations continued on Saturday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 7, Cebu reported.

As of 2:20 p.m. on January 17, authorities reported that one individual remains missing, while 18 others were injured and are receiving medical treatment.

Emergency response teams continue to work under dangerous conditions as they search through unstable piles of waste.

A total of 36 personnel from the BFP have been deployed to assist in the ongoing search, rescue, and retrieval operations, working alongside other local response teams. Rescuers continue to dig through unstable piles of waste, carefully searching for possible survivors or additional victims.

On January 13, the City Council announced that Cebu City has been placed under a state of calamity following the massive landslide.

Earlier, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has issued a cease and desist order against the landfill operator involved in the collapse.
