The death toll from the collapse of a nine-story building under construction in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, has risen to 20 after three more victims were recovered on Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 2026.
According to the Unified Command, the additional victims were extricated from the rubble between 1:13 p.m. and 1:19 p.m.
The 18th victim was recovered at 1:13 p.m., followed by the 19th victim at 1:17 p.m., and the 20th victim at 1:19 p.m., based on reports from the Incident Command Post.
The City Health Office immediately conducted retrieval, tagging, and Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) procedures for the recovered remains.
Authorities said all victims involved in the collapse have now been accounted for, while 27 other individuals were rescued from the site.
The building collapsed on May 24, prompting continuous search, rescue, retrieval, and clearing operations led by the Unified Command.
Responders continue to carefully remove debris and widen access to other sections of the collapsed structure to ensure no additional victims remain trapped beneath the rubble.
Operations are being carried out around the clock despite challenges posed by unstable weather conditions and the fragile state of the collapse site.
Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II said initial findings showed that structural modifications had allegedly been carried out without the necessary permits or approved revisions from the Office of the Building Official.
Lazatin also said private investigators have been tapped to help ensure a credible and impartial investigation into the incident.
