The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) announced the approval and forthcoming release of the 2023 Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for qualified teaching and non-teaching personnel.

The approval came after the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Harmonization of National Government Performance Monitoring, Information, and Reporting Systems (AO25 Task Force) endorsed DepEd’s eligibility for the incentive, with the strong support of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.

According to the DBM, DepEd achieved a total assessment score of 80 points, making the department qualified for the highest PBB rate of 52% of the monthly basic salary. This represents a notable increase from 45.5% in 2021 and 48.75% in 2022.

A Teacher I, who receives a monthly salary of ₱27,000, is expected to get around ₱14,040 as part of the 2023 PBB.

“The approval of the 2023 PBB for DepEd workforce reflects our shared commitment to recognize the hard work and vital contributions of our educators to national development,” said Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

She added that with the support of President Marcos, the government continues to ensure that “performance and dedication are rewarded accordingly.”

The DBM said it will coordinate with DepEd to issue Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) and Notices of Cash Allocation (NCAs) to facilitate the prompt release of the bonuses. Regional and division offices will be informed once the funds are available.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara thanked the DBM and AO25 Task Force for recognizing the efforts of the country’s education personnel.

“Our teachers and education personnel are the backbone of our nation’s future,” Angara said. “This bonus is a testament to their unwavering dedication. We thank our partners in government for their continued support in uplifting the teaching profession.”

The announcement comes as the Philippines concludes its National Teachers’ Month, further highlighting the administration’s commitment to support educators.

In a separate Teachers’ Day message, Pangandaman also reaffirmed the government’s broader reforms for teacher welfare — including the creation of thousands of new teaching and non-teaching positions, the doubling of the teaching allowance, and the implementation of fairer career progression systems.

“We have also provided every teacher with a medical allowance, because your health and well-being matter just as much as the lessons you teach,” the budget chief added.

Both the DBM and DepEd reiterated their commitment to fulfill President Marcos’ directive to uplift the dignity and welfare of teachers — recognizing them not only as educators but as nation-builders shaping the country’s future.
